Trauma and Emergency Preparedness (TEP) is a new
area of clinical emphasis within the Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
(ACNP) and Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Masters Program. The TEP
Clinical Emphasis will prepare the Advanced Practice Nurse as an Adult
Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Clinical Nurse Specialist with specialty
training in:
Emergency Preparedness
Disaster Response
Acute Trauma Care
Emergency Medicine
Students will complete the core courses within the ACNP or CNS program
and a clinical emphasis which includes lectures and clinical experience
in:
Trauma and Emergency Preparedness
Fundamentals of Disaster and Mass Casualty Care
Skills training will be enhanced by High Fidelity Human Simulation
(HFHS) utilizing SIM man. SIM man is able to simulate both rare and
common medical emergencies. We will also be utilizing Nuclear/Bio/Chemical
training modules and treatment equipment. This training mimics real
world situations while providing feedback on the student's actions
and decisions.
Clinical experiences will be arranged to meet the student's individual
needs based on prior experience. This may include pre-hospital care,
emergency and trauma medicine as well as emergency preparedness related
activities. Projects may include disaster planning, disaster drills,
and triage and communication issues.
For those students interested in including care of the pediatric population,
additional education and clinical experiences related to pediatrics
is necessary
